Summer heat in the Middle East

-Afghanistan has seen 2 assassinations to near associates of President Karzi; who will get blamed?

-More violence in Syria; 10 protesters killed.

-Pakistani forces have come under attack from the Afghan border.

-Rebels in Libya are beginning to suffer bigger losses (9 killed, over 100 wounded)

-Gaddafi is holding negotiations with the U.S.; end of this conflict could be near.

In truth, there really would have been no significant rebellion without NATO involvement. The Libyan people overwhelmingly support Gaddafi, and his forces are well-armed. I do believe that western forces are determined to oust Gaddafi, but are realizing that the cost would be very high if ground forces were used. There is also a great risk of Gaddafi sabotaging the coveted natural resources along the way. Troops & resources are limited for NATO, so they must be careful how they use them.

-Iran is also warning regional nations to beware of plots being hatched by Israel, Britain, and the U.S. Among these are "terror" attacks supposedly being staged by Iran-backed resources in Iraq.
